Wetapunga, Our native insect.😎😎😎

Classification
Wetapunga are one of the biggest insects in the world. There are 70 different species of Wetapunga but they only live on four Islands. Wetapunga also known as the weta are one of the heaviest insects in the world as well as being nocturnal. Male Weta can weigh up to 30gs but Female can weigh up to 70gs.


Description
The Weta has ears on each leg. That means six ears. They have a large head,antennas, a small mouth and a pair of strong jaws. The Weta is a insect close to extinction because of introduced predators from the UK.

Location
At Auckland zoo they have a new exhibit with fun education games to teach our generation about how important insect are. They also have two sheds full of Weta in glass cages until they are old enough to live alone. They put on about 385 Weta every trip to one of the islands.


Dynamics
When a Weta lays it's eggs, it leaves them in soil. When they hatch, they will live for 1-2 years if the unexpected doesn't happen . They mostly eat leaves, flowers, seed heads and fruit. When a Weta is little it sheds it's exoskeleton up to ten times.
